Sometimes a traditional swing can be the best baby swing. They are often times overlooked, but there are a few benefits to having a traditional swing verses a cradle swing. For one, most offer a more upright seated position which can be great for babies that suffer from reflux. They also take up less room, and most can be folded and easily stored, not like a cradle swing that becomes a permanent fixture in your home.
The following list includes some of the best traditional swings currently on the market. Below each description you will find a link to my full in-depth review, as well as links to Amazon with current sale prices. What initially caught my eye on this Fisher Price Swing was the high ratings and popularity on Amazon. It’s rated as number 6 for popularity, and 13 out of 13 rated it 4 to 5 stars, that’s 100% customer satisfaction! I’m actually quite impressed with the Fisher-Price Musical Projection Swing. Parents seem truly satisfied with it, which surprised me because it only offers the head to toe swinging motion as opposed to the cradles swings 2 options including side to side. As I read through the reviews I noticed that this Fisher Price Swing is mainly used for entertainment or stimulation verses relaxation or sleep. Many of the parents claimed that this was a huge benefit, mostly because it wouldn’t mess with their little ones sleep schedule, or get them used to being rocked to sleep. In addition, many of the parents also stated that it was extremely easy to assemble, easy to clean, and the fold up feature was a huge plus. The number one benefit seemed to be the projector. Most, if not all the parents were impressed at how well it kept their baby’s attention, even if the swing was turned off, they seemed content to just sit and watch the images float by on the canopy. Although several of the reviewers claimed that this swing can only be used for entertainment purposes, a few of the reviewers claimed otherwise, stating that it seemed to soothe and relax their babies just as much as it entertained them. As for complaints, the only real one was regarding the swing speeds, with the lowest speed seeming too fast. Other than that, the only other complaint was regarding the battery usage. The Fisher Price Musical Projection Swing runs only on batteries with no AC adapter options, so be prepared to spend some money on batteries, or as one reviewer suggested, get a battery charger like the Universal Smart Charger for AA/AAA/C/D/9V Rechargeable Batteries. In the long run, this could save you a ton of money.
In conclusion, if you want a baby swing that will keep your little one comfortable and entertained, and stores easily, then the Fisher Price Musical Projection Swing is just what you’re looking for. If you’re looking for a baby swing that will relax your baby and lull them to sleep, I would suggest a cradle swing.
See for yourself what some of the reviewers had to say about their Fisher Price Swing below.
Projector really seems to keep the little ones attention
Easy to assemble, and easy to use
Folds up for storage or travel
Takes up less space than a cradle swing
More powerful than a portable swing
Only runs on batteries
The lowest swing speed seems a little fast
My son loves it!, March 14, 2012
By SZAA “Lover of All Things Written” (Virginia)
Our 3-month-old is a pretty finicky child when it comes to what he likes and doesn’t like in terms of entertainment. We were given a swing with a simple mobile and that only holds his attention for a few minutes. This one is a gem! Being a rather “old school parent” (meaning, if I didn’t have it as a kid, my son doesn’t need it), I was a bit skeptical of how entertaining the projection could really be, but he stared at it for over 20 minutes every day this week. I would call that success!
I love that this baby swing folds away…essential when living in a small house…and the padding is easy to come off/on. The pattern is gender neutral, perfect for a baby gift, and it’s not an obnoxiously loud design. Overall, I’m incredibly happy with this Fisher Price Swing.
The only cons I’ve found were the inability to plug the baby swing in and the speed. The original swing we had was able to plug into the wall, resulting in tons of money saved on batteries, even if we were to use rechargeable ones. Still have to buy them! And as for the swing speed, my son weighs about 11lbs and even the slowest setting is just a bit too high. We’ve modified it by strapping a 5lb hand weight to the bottom of the seat to slow it down, but I wish we didn’t have to do that.

Projection swing is a hit with the little one, March 15, 2012
By Doc Dave “world music fan” (New York City)
My young infant is a little over 2 months old, just begun to visually track moving objects, and is entertained by this for up to an hour (remarkable for a little infant).
The built in projector is strong and visible even in daylight. It pans, so it is continually panning the image instead of true motion, but the little ones wouldn’t know the difference! The swing motion is strong and probably a little too fast – even at the lowest setting – once you give it a moving start. And the music and sounds are a little too soft even at the loudest settings. These are minor quibbles since the projector is the baby swing’s selling point.
The projector does seem to require a lot of power. It takes D batteries, and will quickly run down rechargeable AA in D-adapters, so it would have been good to have an included AC adapter.

As far as reviews go, the Graco Lovin Hugs Swing did okay. 37 out of 62 reviewers rated it 4 to 5 stars, with 5 being the max. There were some complaints that the motor seized up, but other than that, most seemed pretty satisfied with their purchase. Customer Feedback:
Lovin Hug is a must have baby item,November 30, 2010
We have two of these swings – the “Devon” pattern, and the plug-in “Happy Day Pooh”. The Devon is now 3 years old and the motor is starting to go, but it was used every day for about a year and a half, naps and bedtime. It’s now living at the grandparents’ house as a back up.
The Pooh patten is the exact same swing, but with the wonderful addition of being a plug-in (can use batteries too). Our newest baby does not sleep well flat, and the while the recline on this swing is deep it is upright enough to keep him happy.
Best: 5 point harness, deep recline and multiple positions, 6 speeds from barely moving to warp (though as the baby gets heavier, all the speeds slow down), timer, soft seat.
Worst: nature sounds and music are horrible, loud motor (but my boys liked the click-clack), large footprint, when baby is heavier it eats batteries.
Overall, this cannot be beat..
Sooths our twins,March 8, 2010
By Scot R. Looker “Scot”, (Boonton, NJ USA)
The swing is instrumental in soothing our twins. I will put one in it while I take care of the other, then switch. It’s a great swing. My daughter loves the mobile. It has different speeds for swinging, which is great since my daughter is very sensitive and swing slower than my son. It has music right and nature sounds on the unit, with volume control. It is a little difficult to buckle them in, especially when they are crying, but it is very secure once they are in. Never used the swaddling accessory. The batteries last a long time. I have only changed them once since we’ve began using it (3 months). We use it every day. It is quiet when the music is off. The seat is adjustable. The straps are adjustable.
