Best Baby Swings – Best Infant Soother, Cradle Swing, & Portable Swing

These are the best of the best, my personal favorite baby swings. I tried to pick one favorite from each category, including infant soothers, cradle swings, and portable swings. Now, I’ve seen a lot of different baby swings, and I’ve done a lot of research as well. I tried to decide which features were most important to me, toys vs. swing speeds, etc. I know there are plenty of you who will read this and disagree, I’m actually hoping some of you do, that way you can share your personal favorites. So please, leave a comment and tell us what you think the best baby swing is.

Best Infant Soother

Graco Sweet Peace Newborn Soothing Center
Graco Sweet Peace Newborn Soothing Center @ Amazon $166.23

The best infant soother would have to be the Graco Sweet Peace Newborn Soothing Center. It’s designed to mimic a mother natural movements, plus it offers calming white noise like a mothers heartbeat. I love that it offers so many different seating positions, and reclining positions, plus is has 2 speeds of vibrations to further soothe your little one. However, the best thing about the Graco Sweet Peace is the fact that you can fit a Graco Car Seat on it too. Let’s just say you and Baby come home from the grocery store, you have to put all the groceries away and Baby is currently asleep in her car seat. If you stop rocking it, she will wake up, so you attach the car seat to the Graco Soother, and WAHLA! Baby continues to sleep until all the groceries are put away.

Best Cradle Swing

Fisher-Price Papasan Cradle Swing
Fisher-Price Papasan Cradle Swing @ Amazon $99.00

The Best Cradle Swing was really tough. There are so many with so many wonderful features. Okay, I’ve got it. The Best Baby Cradle Swing, in my opinion, is the Fisher Price Papasan Cradle Swing. Again, I did not have this for my daughter, but she loves lights, and I know she would have been absolutely mesmerized by a light show and rotating mobile. Plus, it offers 16 different songs, and it has a removable tray with a toy bead bar. The Fisher Price Papasan Swing also offers 6 speeds, 2 reclining positions, and a canopy that actually reflects the above light show! That’s awesome!

Best Portable Swing

Bright Starts Ingenuity Portable Swing
Bright Starts Ingenuity Portable Swing @ Amazon $58.99

The Best Portable Baby Swing….another tough one. I’m stuck between the Fisher Price Space Saver Swing, and the Bright Starts Ingenuity Portable Swing. I love that the Fisher Price Space Saver Swing offers a seat lock that keeps it stationary, and I like the calming vibrations. However, the Bright Starts Ingenuity Portable Swing offers TrueSpeed technology, which basically means that it maintains swing speed settings regardless of the weight of your baby. Also, it has a swing timer with 3 settings, oh, and a removable headrest, foot pad, and infant side supports. Did I mention that it folds flat for storage or transport? Okay, I’m going to have to say that the Bright Starts Ingenuity Portable Baby Swing is the best portable baby swing, at least in my opinion.

Bright Starts Ingenuity Collection
Bright Starts Ingenuity Collection

As far as customer reviews go, the Bright Starts Ingenuity Portable Swing did really well. 9 out of 12 reviewers rated it 4 to 5 stars, with 5 being the max. Most seemed to really love the size, and the fact that you can take it anywhere with you. The only real complaints I found were regarding the neutral color not being enough to visually stimulate their little ones, and the automatic music shut-off. One reviewer commented that it was annoying having to push the button every time the music stopped. Aside from that, the Bright Starts Ingenuity Portable Swing seems to be a real pleaser. Personally, I love the entire line of Bright Starts Ingenuity, including the Bright Starts Ingenuity Full Sized Swing, the Ingenuity Automatic Bouncer that actually bounces on its own, and the Bright Starts Ingenuity Playard that offers a sleep easy inclined bassinet with 2 sleep positions. Check out the above video that demonstrates all four designs. Anyways, I’m getting off point. The Bright Starts Ingenuity Portable Swing is an excellent choice for parents looking to save space, or to use when traveling. Its very well priced and quality made. See what current owners are saying below.

The Good
  • Super affordable!
  • Small & compact – takes up half the space of a full sized swing
  • Light & portable – great for traveling
  • Swing timer with 3 settings
  • TrueSpeed technology
  • Super quiet
  • Seat is comfy, offering a 2 position recline
The Bad
  • Hanging bugs are not very colorful and may not be enough to keep your little one entertained
  • Music has an automatic shut-off after 25 minutes – could be good or bad, depending on your baby

My Sanity Keeper, October 2, 2011

By¬†Jack’s mom,

I picked the Bright Starts Ingenuity Portable Swing initially because I liked that it was portable and folds. Most swings and bouncers on the market take up a significant amount of floor space and let’s face it no one likes their house looking like a toy store. Overall it’s good swing, it is the only thing that calms my son down which is why we love it so much. The seat is soft and plush, the toy bar doesn’t look like much but for some reason my son finds the little characters amusing-he stares at them and bats at them every now and then. It folds up nice and compact, fits in my son’s closet without difficulty. The seat is also easy to remove and washable which, for all you first time parents, is the best feature of any cloth material your child will sit in. Another wonderful feature, the swing is quiet! I’ve tested several other brands and for some weird reason their swing mechanism is pretty loud. Music is decent, not too annoying ūüėČ and it has an automatic shut off approximately 25 minutes (enough to get my son to sleep) Some cons-It runs on batteries, so far with approximately 2 hours of daily use the batteries lasted about 2 months (requires C batteries) I’m not sure if that’s good or bad I’ve never officially logged the hours on other swings but it would be nice if it had a plug in feature although, it seems like plug-in features only come with the large swinging monstrosities. I also wish the toy bar swung away from immediate seating path. I didn’t notice it when I purchased the swing but when you lay your child into the swing the toy bar gets in the way-kinda annoying but not a deal breaker. Overall the Bright Starts Ingenuity is a good compact swing for a decent price.

Baby loves it!, August 13, 2011

By Daniel (NY)

The Bright Starts Ingenuity Swing is light, portable and keeps my baby entertained for a while. The music is soothing and the swinging action with three settings is going strong. I would definitely recommend this swing for someone wanting to save space and $$ while having a great quality swing available for their baby.

The Best Fisher Price Cradle Swing: My Little Lamb Vs. My Little Snugabunny

Fisher-Price My Little Snugabunny Cradle 'n Swing
Fisher-Price My Little Snugabunny Cradle 'n Swing @ Amazon.com $126.97

Finding the best Cradle Swing can be a tough job. There are so many to choose from, and they’re so much alike, it’s hard to know what’s best. If you’ve narrowed it down to a Fisher Price Cradle Swing, then you’re doing pretty good, however if you’ve narrowed it down to either the “My Little Lamb” cradle swing, or the “My Little Snugabunny” cradle swing, you’re doing great! These two Fisher Price Cradle Swings have a lot in common, so a decision between the two can be tough, however there are a few key differences that will help you decide.

Let’s take a look at what they have in common first. For example, both the Fisher Price My Little Lamb, and Snugabunny offer 3 seat positions, and 2 swinging motions (head-to-toe & side-to-side), as well as 6 speeds and volume control. Also included with both Fisher Price Swings, a 2 position seat recline, safety restraint, and plush seats with removable, washable seat pads. Both of these cradle swings also fold up easily for storage, and have a weight limit of 25 pounds. Hanging mobiles are also included with both models, and they cost about the same, around $130.00.

Fisher Price My Little Lamb Cradle and Swing
Fisher Price My Little Lamb Cradle and Swing @ Amazon.com $124.99

Now let’s take a look at the differences. First of all, the My Little Snugabunny Swing offers an AC adapter for a plug-in option, whereas the My Little Lamb Swing requires 4 D batteries. The Snugabunny also has removable side support for infants, which is a nice plus. Also, reviewers love it! 63 out of 71 reviewers rated it 4 to 5 stars, with 5 being the max. Now it may seem that the Snugabunny is the way to go, however, the Fisher Price My Little Lamb Swing has a few cards up its sleeve. For instance, the My Little Lamb Swing offers more music options, 10 tunes and 3 nature sounds. Whereas the Snugabunny only offers 8 tunes and 2 nature sounds. Also, the My Little Lamb offers a removable snack tray and toy bead bar.

In conclusion, both of these Fisher Price Cradle Swings are great buys. However, if you’d rather have the AC adapter option and removable side infant support, the Fisher Price My Little Snugabunny Cradle and Swing is best. But, if you’d rather have a few more tunes, and a snack tray with a toy bar, the Fisher Price My Little Lamb Cradle Swing is perfect. ¬†Personally, I would rather have the AC adapter more than anything. Batteries can get sooooo expensive!

Customer Feedback:

still works and using with #2,May 22, 2011

By mamaof2boys,

I bought this Graco Swing 3 years ago for my first son. He had to be swung a certain way.. and the Graco Sweat Peace Soothing Center was the only thing I could find that would mimic the motion he liked. We used it with our first and now with our 2nd baby boy who is now 4 months old, and it’s still working like the day we brought it home. I also have another open top swing that was given to me, the motor sounds the same on either one. So I would not say that it is any noisier than any other baby swing.

Pros
~I loved the fact that it had an outlet for the wall, because If I had to change batteries, I would have only used it till the first set went dead.
~that you can put the seat in any position
~I love that I can put the car seat in it when we get home I don’t have A) another contraption for that and B) just leave the car seat on the ground where he would more than likely just wake up since he was not moving anymore.
~it has variation of sound levels. I read other reviews that said it was pretty much loud or louder.. which on mine the plus and menus button goes up to the loudest and then the more you push the menus it goes down in volume like you would expect (not sure if this is because mine is an older model from 2008)
~the choices of music.. you have your mp3 station, soothing sounds, softer music, and then a choice of the more upbeat music which my son prefers
~it also has a spot to attach a binky so they won’t fall on the floor
~sturdy

Cons
~the toys on it are something that my first son got bored of fairly fast. so I usually just put something else on the theater that he would actually play and chew on (the teether was too big for my son to even begin to put in his mouth
~the toys on the canopy are just put on with Velcro, and they don’t stay.
~it is a bit heavy and hard to move around, (but at the same time which is a pro it’s sturdy)
~the swaddle.. both my son’s were too big for it! my 1st I can understand he was over 9 pounds at birth, but my 2nd was only 7 pounds and 19 inches long, so for him to be too big for it, I would have to say it was probably made for a preemie. Unless I just don’t know how to wrap in a swaddle blanket.

All in All I would recommend the Graco Sweet Peace Soother to anyone (which I have) and I will be using it for future children as long as the motor holds up which it has been still working great, so I don’t see an issue with that

Great swing!,April 17, 2011

By theBlackHaus,

We really love the Graco Sweet Peace for a few reasons:
1. Control over the speed and direction of the swing… fits whatever mood our son is in.
2. The music options are wonderful! Real music with real sounding instruments, instead of chimey tunes that repeat. Also, each option plays enough pieces of music on a rotation that it doesn’t drive the adults in the house crazy.
3. We love that it has the iPod connection for when we get tired of the pre-programmed music.
4. It’s great that it fits the Graco car seat as well as the seat that comes with it.
5. The vibration setting is great.
6. Graco Sweet Peace plugs in… I don’t want to think of how many batteries we’d have gone through already.

I took off one star because:
1. I wish it reclined a little more. Although you can adjust the recline from sitting up to mostly lying down, I wish it reclined to an almost totally lying down position. Sometimes when my son falls asleep in it he scrunches down and gets uncomfortable, which wakes him up.
2. I wish the canopy came a little further down. It stops right over his head, where it doesn’t really block much sun, and he can’t really see the toys.

Customer Feedback:

Nice, quiet travel swing, July 22, 2010

By¬†babyt’s mom,

I did A LOT of research before buying the Bright Starts Comfort & Harmony swing and I feel we made a pretty good choice. We got this for the traveling capabilities, as we have a large baby swing as well, but we tend to use this one more than the big one! It is light, you cannot hear it operating, and the songs are pretty good (wish there was a bit better selection but it isn’t too bad). My son seems to be pretty comfortable in the seat, and it does seem to have a better shape/more cushion than other models we tested out. There are a few cons of this baby swing: 1-you cannot lock it in place, which makes it a little difficult to put baby in and take baby out. 2-the swing shuts off after 1 hour. Sometimes if my son has fallen asleep in the swing it will wake him up when the swing suddenly stops swinging so we have to time it out to start it up again. 3-it needs handles of sorts at the top to move it with. It is portable and folds up nice, but that would just be more convenient. I actually didn’t see these on any portable swing, I just think this is my own personal gripe so I would not rate the swing lower because of this. Overall we are very happy with the Bright Starts Comfort & Harmony Swing.

Great Buy, May 25, 2011

By¬†Jack’s Mom,

We got the Bright Starts Comfort & Harmoney swing for traveling to see family. My little boy loved his big baby swing at home…but there was no way it could travel with us. (big tripod type baby swing) So i got this swing. And he loves it!! I was wondering about the toy bar because they just hang there..but when the baby swing is moving they move, which he will stare at. The music isn’t that great…but what can you expect from a portable baby swing speaker! Also you do have to crank the speed all the way up because with his weight in it, if you don’t have it all the way up he barely moves. It does take 6 C cell batteries. but we have been using it everyday since Saturday….for several hours each day and it is still going strong. We actually set it up when we got home by the sliding glass doors so he can watch outside.

As for the travel aspect, the Bright Starts Comfort & Harmony folds up in to an easy to carry unit. I got it at Baby’s R Us, and paid more than Amazon has it for. Mainly because i need to have hands on and see the quality. I wish i would have ordered it from Amazon, i would have saved over 10 dollars!

Reviews:

First of all, this is not your typical baby swing. The 4Moms team actually put some serious research into this, using motion sensors to measure movements of real Mom’s and Dad’s. As for the reviews, it’s about 50/50. Half of the reviewers gave the Mamaroo 4 to 5 stars, out of 5, and stated that it was “Genius”, while the other half complained that it didn’t move fast enough, or that it was too loud. However, most of the 3 star reviews came from people that had purchased the older 2010 model. Many of those problems, such as pain-in-the-butt buckles, and loudness were fixed with the newer 2011 model .

***** DO NOT HESITATE!! *****,July 6, 2011

By Samantha W.,

The 4Moms MamaRoo is phenomenal! It will replace not only equally expensive baby swings, but it takes up so little space, and is so lightweight that it can be used as a portable bouncer, and even a booster to feed your baby. I sit in front of it on the floor and give my son his bottle (he only has an occasional bottle, so this may not work if you bottle feed every few hours). You can toss the cover in the wash if you get anything on it- it comes off with two zips and a few snaps. Much easier than threaded elastic bands like the Fisher Price model swings.
The Mamaroo speakers sound great playing any kind of music through your iPod. There are so many settings for speeds and movements- more than just swinging back and forth. Who needs to waste gas driving your baby around the block to sleep when you can plug this into the wall and press play! It took about 3 days to “train” my son on it, getting him used to this as opposed to his baby swing. I would put him in the Mamaroo only after he fell asleep, and gradually, as he was used to it, he’d happily sit in it and kick and giggle. At 5 months, he still LOVES it, and it gives me a little time to get things done after floor time, while he’s still awake and not hungry, he is happy to sit in there and watch me do my chores.
And 4Moms company has phenomenal customer service! There is an Insider program on their website where you can earn discounts on their products, and even test their stuff! I am in NO WAY affiliated with them- I just had a customer service issue resolved by one of their customer service agents, and am spreading the word as my appreciation for great customer support!
Buy this with full confidence! =) The Mamaroo is amazing, and the company is top notch!!!!

No more sleepless nights.,October 14, 2010

By¬†M. Dermody “Miraj” (Chicago, IL)

Our 3 month old daughter has reflux and needs to sleep in a sitting up position. We had tried bouncy seats and other swings then came across the Mamaroo. We were a bit cramped for space so the chair is ideal due to its small footprint. On our pediatrician’s recommendation we strapped her in thinking it would be just another sleepless night for us again. 8 hours later both of us had sleep and were less irritable and our daughter was delightfully happy and not cranky in the morning. I did find the fabric a bit stiffer than the softer swings. I ended up putting a JJ Cole Bundle Me over the Mamaroo so our daughter wouldn’t kick off a blanket in the middle of the night.

Since having the Mamaroo our daughter has been gaining weight on a steady basis. Both of us sleep and it’s quiet enough to have next to the bed. Considering that we let it run for 6+ hours at a time it seems to be reliable. I like the smooth motion and right after we got the Mamaroo assembled (which was easy) our daughter fell asleep 2 minutes after we put her in it.
