Bright Starts Ingenuity Vs. Comfort & Harmony – Portable Baby Swings

If you’re having a hard time deciding between the Bright Starts Ingenuity and the Bright Starts Comfort & Harmony Portable Swings, there’s good reason. They are very similar and offer many of the same features, however, there are a few key differences that may help you decide.

Similarities:

Bright Starts Ingenuity Portable Swing

First of all, let’s take a look at the similarities. Both the Bright Starts Ingenuity and the Comfort & Harmony Swings offer 6 swing speeds, 6 melodies, and a swing timer with three settings ranging from 15 to 45 minutes. Both also offer over-sized seats with 2 position recline, safety harness’s, removable head support, cushioned foot pillows, and both seat pads are removable and washable. Also, both the Bright Starts Ingenuity and the Bright Starts Comfort & Harmony also require 4 C batteries, and will hold from 6 to 25 pounds. Both also fold flat for storage or traveling, and they come with removable toy bars.

Differences:

These two portable baby swings are basically identical, except for a couple of things. One is that the Bright Starts Ingenuity offers TrueSpeed technology which means that regardless of how heavy or light your baby is, the speed settings will always maintain the correct swing speed.  Also, the Ingenuity comes with infant side supports. The only other difference is price. The Bright Starts Comfort & Harmony Portable Swing lists for $59.99, whereas the Bright Starts Ingenuity lists for $64.99.

When it comes to reviews, the Bright Starts Comfort & Harmony has more, but keep in mind that the Bright Starts Ingenuity Collection is new to the market. Both had about the same percentage of satisfied customers. There were a few complaints for both, the most common was the fact that the music automatically shuts off after 25 minutes, and you have to keep turning it back on.  Also, a few of the reviewers for the Bright Starts Comfort & Harmony Swing stated that after 1 hour, even if you don’t set the timer, the swing automatically shuts off. Now I didn’t find any complaints of this for the Bright Starts Ingenuity, so maybe that’s something they’ve improved.

Conclusion:

Well, if it was me, I’d pay the extra $5.00 for the Bright Starts Ingenuity Portable Swing because you get the TrueSpeed technology, and the infant side supports. But, if you can find the Bright Starts Comfort & Harmony on sale for quite a bit less, I’d go that route instead.

Currently at Amazon, the Bright Starts Comfort & Harmony Portable Swing is on sale for $47.00, and the Bright Starts Ingenuity Portable Swing is on sale for $58.99.

Bright Starts Ingenuity Collection
Bright Starts Ingenuity Collection

As far as customer reviews go, the Bright Starts Ingenuity Portable Swing did really well. 9 out of 12 reviewers rated it 4 to 5 stars, with 5 being the max. Most seemed to really love the size, and the fact that you can take it anywhere with you. The only real complaints I found were regarding the neutral color not being enough to visually stimulate their little ones, and the automatic music shut-off. One reviewer commented that it was annoying having to push the button every time the music stopped. Aside from that, the Bright Starts Ingenuity Portable Swing seems to be a real pleaser. Personally, I love the entire line of Bright Starts Ingenuity, including the Bright Starts Ingenuity Full Sized Swing, the Ingenuity Automatic Bouncer that actually bounces on its own, and the Bright Starts Ingenuity Playard that offers a sleep easy inclined bassinet with 2 sleep positions. Check out the above video that demonstrates all four designs. Anyways, I’m getting off point. The Bright Starts Ingenuity Portable Swing is an excellent choice for parents looking to save space, or to use when traveling. Its very well priced and quality made. See what current owners are saying below.

The Good
  • Super affordable!
  • Small & compact – takes up half the space of a full sized swing
  • Light & portable – great for traveling
  • Swing timer with 3 settings
  • TrueSpeed technology
  • Super quiet
  • Seat is comfy, offering a 2 position recline
The Bad
  • Hanging bugs are not very colorful and may not be enough to keep your little one entertained
  • Music has an automatic shut-off after 25 minutes – could be good or bad, depending on your baby

My Sanity Keeper, October 2, 2011

By Jack’s mom,

I picked the Bright Starts Ingenuity Portable Swing initially because I liked that it was portable and folds. Most swings and bouncers on the market take up a significant amount of floor space and let’s face it no one likes their house looking like a toy store. Overall it’s good swing, it is the only thing that calms my son down which is why we love it so much. The seat is soft and plush, the toy bar doesn’t look like much but for some reason my son finds the little characters amusing-he stares at them and bats at them every now and then. It folds up nice and compact, fits in my son’s closet without difficulty. The seat is also easy to remove and washable which, for all you first time parents, is the best feature of any cloth material your child will sit in. Another wonderful feature, the swing is quiet! I’ve tested several other brands and for some weird reason their swing mechanism is pretty loud. Music is decent, not too annoying 😉 and it has an automatic shut off approximately 25 minutes (enough to get my son to sleep) Some cons-It runs on batteries, so far with approximately 2 hours of daily use the batteries lasted about 2 months (requires C batteries) I’m not sure if that’s good or bad I’ve never officially logged the hours on other swings but it would be nice if it had a plug in feature although, it seems like plug-in features only come with the large swinging monstrosities. I also wish the toy bar swung away from immediate seating path. I didn’t notice it when I purchased the swing but when you lay your child into the swing the toy bar gets in the way-kinda annoying but not a deal breaker. Overall the Bright Starts Ingenuity is a good compact swing for a decent price.

The Bright Starts Ingenuity Swing is light, portable and keeps my baby entertained for a while. The music is soothing and the swinging action with three settings is going strong. I would definitely recommend this swing for someone wanting to save space and $$ while having a great quality swing available for their baby.

Nice, quiet travel swing, July 22, 2010

By babyt’s mom,

I did A LOT of research before buying the Bright Starts Comfort & Harmony swing and I feel we made a pretty good choice. We got this for the traveling capabilities, as we have a large baby swing as well, but we tend to use this one more than the big one! It is light, you cannot hear it operating, and the songs are pretty good (wish there was a bit better selection but it isn’t too bad). My son seems to be pretty comfortable in the seat, and it does seem to have a better shape/more cushion than other models we tested out. There are a few cons of this baby swing: 1-you cannot lock it in place, which makes it a little difficult to put baby in and take baby out. 2-the swing shuts off after 1 hour. Sometimes if my son has fallen asleep in the swing it will wake him up when the swing suddenly stops swinging so we have to time it out to start it up again. 3-it needs handles of sorts at the top to move it with. It is portable and folds up nice, but that would just be more convenient. I actually didn’t see these on any portable swing, I just think this is my own personal gripe so I would not rate the swing lower because of this. Overall we are very happy with the Bright Starts Comfort & Harmony Swing.

Great Buy, May 25, 2011

By Jack’s Mom,

We got the Bright Starts Comfort & Harmoney swing for traveling to see family. My little boy loved his big baby swing at home…but there was no way it could travel with us. (big tripod type baby swing) So i got this swing. And he loves it!! I was wondering about the toy bar because they just hang there..but when the baby swing is moving they move, which he will stare at. The music isn’t that great…but what can you expect from a portable baby swing speaker! Also you do have to crank the speed all the way up because with his weight in it, if you don’t have it all the way up he barely moves. It does take 6 C cell batteries. but we have been using it everyday since Saturday….for several hours each day and it is still going strong. We actually set it up when we got home by the sliding glass doors so he can watch outside.

As for the travel aspect, the Bright Starts Comfort & Harmony folds up in to an easy to carry unit. I got it at Baby’s R Us, and paid more than Amazon has it for. Mainly because i need to have hands on and see the quality. I wish i would have ordered it from Amazon, i would have saved over 10 dollars!
