What Is The Best Baby Swing For Your Little One?

Fisher-Price My Little Snugabunny Cradle 'n Swing
Fisher-Price My Little Snugabunny Cradle 'n Swing

What is the best baby swing? Well, that depends on a few factors. First and foremost, what kind of motions seem to soothe your baby most? Does your baby suffer from colic? Does your baby suffer from acid reflux? Maybe your baby would prefer rocking to swinging. Is your baby sensitive to visual stimulation? Maybe your baby would prefer a light show to say… a mobile that spins round and round. Do you have room for a full-sized baby swing? If not, perhaps the best baby swing for you would be a space saver swing, or a portable swing. Because there are so many different features to choose from, there are several swings that fit into the “best baby swing” category.

Graco Sweet Peace Newborn Soothing Center
Graco Sweet Peace Newborn Soothing Center

If you’re looking for more of an infant soother with several different motions, perhaps the best baby swing for your baby would be an infant soother like the Graco Sweet Peace.  This infant soothing center is designed to mimic a mothers natural movements. It offers 2 speeds of vibrations, high quality music and natures sounds, as well as low frequency white noise, like a mothers heartbeat. The Graco Sweet Peace is designed to hold a baby up to 25 pounds. As an added perk, the Graco Sweet Peace is also designed with a detachable seat, therefore making it possible to attach your Graco Car Seat.

If your little one suffers from colic, then the best baby swing for your baby may be a cradle swing with strong swing speeds. The My Little Snugabunny Cradle Swing offers 6 speeds, and gives you the option of either running it on 4 D batteries, or plugging it in to the wall. The Snugabunny Swing also offers both the side-to-side motion as well as the traditional head-to-toe motion. It comes with 8 different tunes, some to entertain and some to soothe, as well as 2 nature sounds.

Graco Lovin Hugs Swing
Graco Lovin Hugs Swing

If your baby suffers from reflux, perhaps the best baby swing for you would be one that offers a seat that sits more upright. For instance, most of the Fisher Price Cradle Swings offer 2 position reclines, some of which would be plenty to help with reflux, but when it comes to a seat with more reclining or sitting options, the Graco Lovin Hugs Swing comes to mind. This baby swing is a traditional baby swing, and does not offer the cradle swinging motion, but it does offer 4 reclining positions, an open top for easy access to Baby, and it comes with 10 classical songs and 5 nature songs. The Graco Lovin Hugs also offers 6 swing speeds. If reflux is a problem for your baby, then I would definitely recommend this swing as the best baby swing for your little one.

Fisher-Price Papasan Cradle Swing
Fisher-Price Papasan Cradle Swing

Perhaps the swinging motion alone won’t be enough to soother your little one. If that’s the case, then the best baby swing for your baby may be one with a motorized mobile. Visual stimulation can be extremely handy when it comes to lulling your baby off to sleep. Some babies prefer a mobile that spins on its own, while other babies prefer something with a bit more stimulation. For instance, the Fisher Price Papasan Cradle Swing offers an overhead light show that projects onto the surrounding canopy, as well as a motorized mobile that spins around in circles. It also comes with a snack tray, including a toy bead bar, as well as 16 different songs. The Papasan Cradle Swing also offers both the head-to-toe swinging motion and the side-to-side swinging motion, as well as 6 different speeds.

Maybe you live in a small apartment, or your space is limited somehow. Maybe you already have a full-sized baby swing and you’re looking for something you can take with you on the road, or to Grandma’s house. Perhaps a portable swing would be the best baby swing for your little one. The Bright Starts Comfort & Harmony Swing is half the size of a full-sized swing and it easily folds up for storage or travel. It also offers 6 swing speeds, a swing timer, 6 melodies, and 2 full body reclining positions.

Fisher Price Infant-To-Toddler Rocker
Fisher Price Infant-To-Toddler Rocker

Maybe your little one would prefer a rocking motion over a swinging motion. If that is the case, then perhaps the Fisher Price Infant-To-Toddler Rocker would be the best baby swing for your little one. With its maximum weight limit of 40 pounds, the Fisher Price Infant-To-Toddler Rocker will outlast any baby swing. It’s designed to grow with your baby, first through the infant and baby years, then through the toddler years, transforming into a rocker seat for toddlers all the way up to 40 pounds. It’s small size makes it extremely lightweight and portable. It comes with calming vibrations, a 2-position seat recline, and a machine washable seat pad. I feel it’s important to mention, this rocker is not motorized, so you do have to give it a gentle nudge to rock.

In conclusion, the best baby swing is not hard to find. It’s all about knowing your baby, and understanding what brings him/her the most comfort, aside from your warm embrace.

My Review:

The Fisher Price Rainforest Swing had pretty good reviews. 167 out of 240 reviewers rated it 4 to 5 stars, with 5 being the max. Most loved it, claiming that it was a “Lifesaver”, or a “must-have”. A few reviewers even stated that the rainforest swing was the best baby product they owned. The only real complaints I found were that the motor seemed a bit loud, and a couple of the reviewers stated that the swinging motions weren’t enough to soothe their little ones. Keep in mind, every baby is different. Also, most reviewers loved the fact that the rainforest swing plugged into the wall, stating that it was a HUGE money saver! Customer Feedback:

Best swing by far,June 13, 2011

By Jewels,

We bought the rainforest swing for a our son when he was a month old and we couldn’t have been happier and neither could he. When I was reading the reviews on this swing a lot of people complained about the motor being loud.. I didn’t find this at all. I guess it would be if you had nothing on in your house but the swing. Assembly was very easy as well and the motor seemed strong enough to swag my son the entire time he used it. We also used it for my daughter who was born two years after my son.

I always recommend the rainforest swing to friends and family who are having babies. The plug in option is also great! Batteries are just too pricey and they don’t last very long… even the rechargeable ones.

A lifesaver!,July 12, 2011

By Jennifer A. Bensen “J.Bensen”, (Twin Falls, Idaho)

My 6 week old only wants to take naps if he is sleeping on me, and while I love snuggling with him, I need a break too! The rainforest swing has been my life saver because I can put him in the swing when he’s falling asleep and he will, without fail, sleep in the swing for up to 2 hours. When he is not sleepy, he is fascinated by the moving mobile. I also like how I can move the mobile out of the way when I need to get him out of the swing. Also, the assembly wasn’t hard to put together by myself. The only con I can think of is that the motor for the mobile is a little loud, though my son doesn’t seem to mind at all!

My Review:

As far as reviews go, the Fisher Price Zen Collection Cradle Swing did awesome! 128 out of 171 customers gave it 4 to 5 stars, with 5 being the max. The most loved feature, aside from the looks, was the removable infant seat. One reviewer stated that when her Baby fell asleep she could easily move her from room to room with her. The only real complaints were that the set-up instructions were lacking, and it was somewhat confusing. Also, it takes up quite a bit of space, but in all actuality the Zen Collection Cradle Swing is no bigger than any other cradle swing. Great Swing!, August 7, 2011

By Jen,

I bought the Zen Collection Swing about two years ago now and still absolutely love it! My 22 month old daughter used it daily until she outgrew it and now our 9 month old daughter uses it every day (she is small for her age so she still fits in it well). I absolutely love the looks of the Zen Collection swing and I don’t mind that it’s been in my living room or bedroom for basically the last two years. The built in blanket is actually a great feature and they both always look(ed) very comfortable in the swing. The music it plays is very relaxing and both girls love(ed) the mobile. It is built very well and has withstood two babies very well!

One of the best baby items I own!, April 19, 2011

By Kel,  (Garden City, MI)

We really love the Zen Collection swing and have found it to be such a sanity saver!

Features:
The stationary mobile is cute without being too “baby.” It swings out of the way when moving baby in and out of swing which is nice. My son loves to stare at it, but I know some people think it is not stimulating enough.

The overall design and color pattern of the Zen Collection swing is so nice. It looks great in my living room without screaming “I am an obnoxiously colored piece of baby stuff.” The attached blanket is one of my favorite features, I can keep him cozy and don’t have to worry about him pulling the blanket over his head. The fabric and padding are very plush and my little guy zonks out pretty quickly after I put him in it.

The music is very calming, it is “Zen” versions of classical lullabies and some nature noises. I find we both “Zen out” when it is playing.

I will be honest, I have never removed the infant seat from the swing because I have a tiny house and a heavy baby. But it is a nice feature I would probably take advantage of if my circumstances were different.

All in all, I love the Zen Collection swing. My baby takes great naps in it which is worth any amount of money!
