Best Portable Baby Swing – Bright Starts Ingenuity & Fisher Price Rocker

Once again, I have mixed feelings. The Bright Starts Ingenuity and the Bright Starts Comfort & Harmony Portable Baby Swings had the highest customer satisfaction ratings, however the Bright Starts Comfort & Harmony was the best selling. The problem is that the Bright Starts Ingenuity is new to the market, and therefore does not have near the reviews that the Comfort & Harmony Swing does. Both Bright Starts Portable Baby Swings are very similar with only have a few differences. So, in the end I chose features over total reviews, therefore making the Bright Starts Ingenuity Portable Baby Swing the best. I also included a Fisher Price Infant To Toddler Rocker in this category, mainly because it is perhaps my favorite portable soother, but it’s not a swing, I’ll explain momentarily.

Bright Starts Ingenuity Portable Swing

First, let’s take a look at the Bright Starts Ingenuity Portable Baby Swing. It offers 6 swing speeds, 2 reclining seat positions, and 6 melodies. The Bright Starts Ingenuity Swing also offers a handy swing timer with 3 settings, 15, 30, and 45 minutes. Plus, it comes with a removable head rest, foot pad, and infant side supports. All of these features are super nice, but my favorite feature is the TrueSpeed technology. This enables the Bright Starts Ingenuity Swing to maintain swing speed settings regardless of how heavy Baby is. Some swings slow down as Baby gets heavier, but not this one. In addition, the Bright Starts Ingenuity is also lightweight, and it folds flat, making it easier to store and easier to travel with. I love the fact that it’s so small, it takes up half the space of a full-sized swing, so if your house is cramped, this portable baby swing is perfect. Plus it’s only $59.00 at Amazon.

Fisher Price Infant-To-Toddler Rocker
Fisher Price Infant-To-Toddler Rocker @ Amazon

Now, the Fisher Price Infant To Toddler Rocker is probably my most favorite, mainly because it’s designed to grow with your child all the way through the toddler years. It offers 3 infant stages and 1 toddler stage. In the first stage the Fisher Price Rocker reclines back and offers calming vibrations. It also has a toy bar with hanging toys that provide visual stimulation for Baby. Now, I think it’s important to note, this is not an automatic rocker, it’s a manual rocker, so Mom has to give the little one a gentle push to get things going. I know, this might sound like a pain, but keep reading and you’ll understand my fascination with the Fisher Price Rocker. In stage 2 the toys from the toy bar can be attached to the seat itself, giving Baby the opportunity to have hands on entertainment. In stage 3 the toy bar can be reattached, the seat adjusts uprights, and Baby can bat and play with the toys. Another nice feature is the kickstand which can be unfolded at any time, providing a stationary seat for Baby, which can double as a vibrating seat. In the last stage, the toddler stage, the seat back adjusts up higher to support a toddler, and your little one can rock by themselves. It has a maximum weight capacity of 40 pounds, so this is probably the only infant soother that will be useful up to 3 or 4 years old. And, with a price as little as $42.99, you really can’t go wrong. It’s actually on sale at Amazon right now for $35.98, 16% off.

Fisher Price Infant-To-Toddler Rocker Vs Space Saver Swing

Fisher Price Ocean Wonders Space Saver Swing
Fisher Price Space Saver Swing @ Amazon

If you’re looking for a Baby Swing that is small and portable, you may be considering the Fisher Price Space Saver Swing. I would like to also suggest the Fisher Price Infant-To-Toddler Rocker, which is not exactly a baby swing, but I do believe that it is just as good as a baby swing, if not better. Let’s compare these two baby swing/seats side by side, and see what they have to offer.

Similarities:

The reason I chose to compare these two fisher price swing/seats is because both the space saver swing and the infant-to-toddler rocker are small, and extremely portable. So if you’re looking for something that you can easy throw in the car and take to Grandma’s house, both of these would definitely. Both the Infant-To-Toddler Rocker and the space saver swing offer stationary seats that lock into place, as well as calming vibrations. Both also offer 2 position reclines, deep seats with safety restraints, and hanging toys. Both the Fisher Price Infant-To-Toddler Rocker and the Space Saver Swing offer a removable, washable seat pad, and require batteries.

Differences:

Fisher Price Infant-To-Toddler Rocker
Fisher Price Infant-To-Toddler Rocker @ Amazon

First things first, the Fisher Price Infant-To-Toddler Rocker only rocks, it does not swing. It is not powered by a motor, you must gently rock it yourself. The batteries it requires are for the calming vibrations. The Fisher Price Space Saver Swing is completely battery operated, swings on its own, and offers 5 swing speeds, along with 7 songs. So now you might be asking yourself, why would anyone get the manual rocker over the automatic swing? Well, the Space Saver Swing can only be used up to 25 pounds, whereas the Fisher Price Infant-To-Toddler Rocker is designed to be used all the way up to 40 pounds. You see, the seat back grows and adjusts with your child, offering 3 infant stages, and 1 toddler stage. Through the infant stages, the toy bar and toys detach, and then can be reattached in other places to give your little one a more hands on experience. As Baby grows the seat adjusts more and more upright, until finally, in the toddler stage, your little one can use the seat as their own personal rocker, and rock themselves.

Price:

The Fisher Price Infant-To-Toddler Rocker normally lists for $42.99, whereas the Space Saver Swing regularly lists for $74.99. However, currently on Amazon, both are on sale. The Infant-To-Toddler Rocker is currently listed for $35.99, and the Fisher Price Space Saver Swing is listed for $64.99. Both are great deals!

Reviews:

As far as reviews go, the Fisher Price Infant-To-Toddler Rocker was definitely the most popular, with 460 out of 549 reviewers rating it 4 to 5 stars, with 5 being the max. In other words, 84% of the reviewers were extremely satisfied. The Fisher Price Space Saver Swing did pretty good, although not near as popular as the rocker, with 32 out of 42 reviewers rating it 4 to 5 stars.

Fisher Price Infant-To-Toddler Rocker - Princess Mouse Pink
Fisher Price Infant-To-Toddler Rocker - Princess Mouse Pink

The Fisher Price Infant-To-Toddler Rocker had awesome reviews. In fact, that’s what first caught my attention. 446 out of 533 reviewers rated it 4 to 5 stars, not only does that mean that people are buying it, but people really seem to love it. After reading through many of the reviews I found that most of the reviewers loved it so much they purchased an additional one for Grandma and Grandpa’s house. There were a few negative reviews, but after researching this product a bit more I realized that their problems were based off of improper usage. First of all, the Fisher Price Infant-To-Toddler Rocker comes with some guidelines which state “Use the upright position only when your child has developed enough upper body control to sit without leaning forward”. So, don’t put it in the upright position until your child is ready, or else the swing may tip over forward. Other than that, most absolutley loved it, and would recommend it to anyone. See for yourself what some of the reviewers are saying about their Fisher Price Infant-To-Toddler Rocker below.

The best $30 we spent, August 18, 2011

By happymom,

We bought this chair when our baby was 10 days old. We have used it every day and she is now 5 months old. When she was tiny, it was a lovely safe place to put her down. She liked the vibrations and sometimes we would rock her with our foot. She would watch the butterflies and seemed stimulated by the mobile. By the time she was about two and a half months old she would kick her feet and make the mobile swing and the chair rock. Now at five months she is pulling the musical part of the mobile and playing the song. She rocks it on her own and seems indifferent about the vibrations.
I have taken this chair everywhere. It is great on vacation because she has a place to rest. We have taken it to family parties and when we put the kick stand out she naps in the chair. It is sturdy; it is constantly moving from the living room to the backyard in our house. It is easy to clean; the fabric comes off and is washable in the washing machine.
I highly recommend this chair. My husband and I keep telling people it was the best $30 we spent.

Used correctly, this seat is perfect!,

By S.Neary, (Florida)

I’ve been reading the reviews about people putting their babies in this in the rocking position, and that’s entirely too early for this feature to be used. The rocker part is for when the child is old enough to reach the floor with his/her own legs. You wouldn’t put a child in an adult rocking chair and you shouldn’t use the rocking feature of this chair for babies either. It’s for the toddler stage. I’ve had this rocker for 6+ years and none of my 3 children have ever fallen out because they’ve never been put in by themselves in the rocker mode.

I wish I could have given 10 stars!!,

By Jenn “Baileys Mommy” (Newark, DE USA)

I loooooooooove this chair! My daughter is now 2 and I have to say that I have probably used this chair everyday since she was born. As an infant chair, the soft vibrating action always kept her comfortable and calm. Never had an issue with the chair tipping when she got to be about 7 or 8 months, as i did with our “bouncer” chair. She uses the chair now in the rocking position as her everyday seat to put on her shoes, watch a movie or read a book. I would recommend this product to anyone who was looking for a vibrating chair for their baby. The fact that I know this is one item that I will be able to use for some time to come is just the icing on the cake! 10 stars for this one!!
